Luggage net in the load compartment

The luggage net prevents objects falling out when the tailgate/rear door is open.

Also observe the safety notes in the "Stowage and useful information" section more.

To secure lightweight loads: clip luggage net mbsymb6_inv_003a.png into lower retainers mbsymb6_inv_003d.png using the lower hooks.

Clip luggage net mbsymb6_inv_003a.png into side retainers mbsymb6_inv_003b.png using the upper hooks.

Luggage net mbsymb6_inv_003a.png can also be anchored behind the second row of seats, as described previously. Side retainers mbsymb6_inv_0041.png are located in the side trim on the left and right-hand sides. Depending on the equipment, side retainers mbsymb6_inv_0041.png are located beneath cover mbsymb6_inv_003f.png that is removed upwards.

Load protection net

WARNING

The load protection net alone cannot restrain or secure heavy objects, luggage or heavy loads. In the event of abrupt changes in direction, braking manoeuvres or an accident, you may be struck by unsecured loads. There is a risk of injury, possibly even fatal.

Always stow objects in such a way that they cannot be tossed about. Secure objects, luggage and loads to prevent them slipping or tipping over, e.g. by lashing them down, even when using the load protection net.

WARNING

If vehicle occupants are seated behind a load protection net, they may be squeezed up against the load protection net. There is a risk of injury, particularly in the event of braking manoeuvres or abrupt changes in direction.

Never allow vehicle occupants to sit behind the load protection net.

The load protection net borders the load compartment. It protects vehicle occupants from light objects and/or luggage slipping or tipping over. Always observe the notes on securing loads more.

You can install the load protection net at an angle in the following positions:

  • behind the front seats

  • in the middle of the vehicle

  • in the rear section of the vehicle

There are two ways of installing the load protection net in the position behind the front seats:

  • using the lashing eyelets in the foremost seat rail positions (optimum position) or

  • at the sides, using the lashing eyelets on the B-pillar

On vehicles with rear-compartment air conditioning, the upper retainers for the load protection net are located beneath a cover next to the rear air vents.

Fitting

If the load protection net is to be fitted behind the rear bench seat, first remove the load compartment cover more.

On vehicles with rear-compartment air-conditioning, slide cover mbsymb6_inv_003a.png forwards.

Clip the load protection net into upper retainers mbsymb6_inv_003b.png in such a way that tensioning straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.png face the rear of the vehicle.

Insert lashing eyelets into the next available guide rail position behind the seat legs more.

Pull the tensioning straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.png of the load protection net tightly.

Clip hook mbsymb6_inv_0041.png on tensioning straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.png into lashing eyelets mbsymb6_inv_0042.png.

Fold tensioning element mbsymb6_inv_003d.png up.

Pull the loose ends of tensioning straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.png down in the direction of the arrow until tensioning straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.pngare tight.

Fold tensioning element mbsymb6_inv_003d.png down to achieve the final tension on the straps.

Fit a load compartment cover as needed.

After travelling a short distance, check that the load protection net is taut.

Retighten, if necessary.

Removing

Remove the load compartment cover.

Fold tensioning element mbsymb6_inv_003d.png up.

Tensioning straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.png slacken.

Unclip hook mbsymb6_inv_0041.png of tensioning straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.png from lashing eyelets mbsymb6_inv_0042.png at the bottom.

Unclip the load protection net from upper retainers mbsymb6_inv_003b.png.

On vehicles with rear-compartment air conditioning, close cover mbsymb6_inv_003a.png.

Fit a load compartment cover as needed.

Roll up the load protection net and fasten it, still rolled up, using the Velcro fasteners.

Adjusting the front seat with the load protection net installed

Fold tensioning element mbsymb6_inv_003d.png on straps mbsymb6_inv_003f.png upwards.

The load protection net slackens.

Correctly adjust the front seat.

Retension the load protection net.

Load protection grille

Full-height load protection grille

The full-height load protection grille is secured by screws to the cross member behind the front seats and to the roof.

Removing

First, remove screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png from lower retainers mbsymb6_inv_003a.png.

Remove screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png from upper retainers mbsymb6_inv_003d.png and support the load protection grille.

Remove the load protection grille.

Refitting

Place the load protection grille in the securing points.

Insert and screw in screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png for upper retainers mbsymb6_inv_003d.png. Do not yet tighten screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png.

Insert and tighten screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png for lower retainers mbsymb6_inv_003a.png.

Tighten screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png on upper retainers mbsymb6_inv_003d.png.

Split load protection grille

Removing

First, remove screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png from lower retainers mbsymb6_inv_003a.png on one of the load protection grille elements.

Remove screw mbsymb6_inv_003b.png from upper retainer mbsymb6_inv_003d.png and support the load protection grille.

Remove the load protection grille element.

Refitting

Place the load protection grille element in the securing points.

Insert and screw in screw mbsymb6_inv_003b.png for the upper retainer mbsymb6_inv_003d.png. Do not yet tighten screw mbsymb6_inv_003b.png.

Insert and tighten screws mbsymb6_inv_003b.png for lower retainers mbsymb6_inv_003a.png.

Tighten screw mbsymb6_inv_003b.png for upper retainer mbsymb6_inv_003d.png.

Load compartment cover

The load compartment cover cannot be used if the standard bench seat more has been fitted.

To fit the load compartment cover: insert the load compartment cover with mounting bush mbsymb6_inv_003a.png into right-hand retainer mbsymb6_inv_003b.png so that the tab points towards the rear.

Hold the load compartment cover so that the left-hand side of the cover is located over the left-hand retainer.

Press mounting bush mbsymb6_inv_003a.png in the direction of the arrow and allow cover housing mbsymb6_inv_003d.png to audibly engage in retainer mbsymb6_inv_003b.png.

To cover the load compartment: pull blind mbsymb6_inv_003f.png by tab mbsymb6_inv_0042.png to the rear over the load compartment.

Clip blind mbsymb6_inv_003f.png into retainers mbsymb6_inv_0041.png at the rear of the vehicle.

To roll up the load compartment cover: hold tab mbsymb6_inv_0042.png and pull it back slightly to unclip it from retainers mbsymb6_inv_0041.png at the rear.

Guide blind mbsymb6_inv_003f.png slowly back until it is rolled up.

To remove the load compartment cover: roll up blind mbsymb6_inv_003f.png.

Press mounting bush mbsymb6_inv_003a.png in the direction of the arrow and lift it out of retainer mbsymb6_inv_003b.png.

Pull the load compartment cover out of left-hand retainer mbsymb6_inv_003b.png.

The load compartment cover can also be fitted behind the second row of seats, as described previously.
